Tileikani annex inter-village hockey trophy

Tikeikani emerge champions in Hockey Fest-2010, a six-a-side inter-village hockey tournament, thrashing Saunamara 5-1 in the final at BB Mishra Stadium here today.  The winners received the top prize of Rs 15,000, while the runners-up took home Rs 10,000.

Organised by Dilip Tirkey Sports Research and Development Foundation, the tournament commenced with qualifying rounds at eight centres in Sundargarh district and concluded here with the final round, involving eight winners of the qualifying round.

Anil Khalkar, Pilus Ekka and Suleman Dungdung were given cash prizes of Rs 3,000 each as the man of the tournament, highest scorer and most promising player respectively. The youngest player of the tournament award, carrying Rs 5,000, went to Prakash Jojo.

CRPF DIG Nageswar Rao gave away the prizes in the presence of hockey Olympians Dilip Tirkey and Lazrus Barla. Earlier in the semifinals, Tileikani mauled Jampali 7-0, while Saunamara edged out Lulkidihi 5-4.
